Learn How to Install WordPress on your local machine - 13 facts : 13 facts

To start building your own website with WordPress you need to learn how to install WordPress on your local machine so you can make changes and customization’s.

Installing WordPress locally is always a good idea before showing it live to the world. If you have WordPress installed on your local machine then you can test you websites look and feel, you can test new plugins or functionalities which you will be showing on your live website. It’s always like a safe side because making changes on live website is not considered as a good practice. Imagine a condition when some user is visiting your live website and your are making changes to you WordPress, let’s say you are installing plugin or a new theme maybe but you immediately find out that after making changes to your website, your website started to show some error or it broken completely. So you may loose your data and the most important thing, you will give a bad experience to your website visitor and he/she is never going to come back again to your website because there are millions of other options available for every thing on internet. So to avoid any worst condition or just to learn you need to know how to use WordPress on your computer(Local Machine).

Before Installing WordPress on your local machine you need to have XAMPP installed :

Install XAMPP on your computer : XAMPP comes with a bundle of Apache and Mysql so that fulfills all the requirements for us. If you don’t know how to install XAMPP then CLICK HERE

Now that you have installed XAMPP and it is up and running on you computer, let’s move to the next step.

Download WordPress :

You need to download a fresh copy of WordPress from the https://wordpress.org website. After downloading, extract the zip file and copy the wordpress folder. Now you have to go to /xampp/htdocs/ directory on your computer inside your c:// directory, complete path would be c://xampp/htdocs if you are using windows and you have installed XAMPP with default settings.

Now paste the WordPress folder in /htdocs directory.

Rename the wordpress folder to the name of your website, such as 13facts etc. This will be the URL of your local WordPress website, be sure to choose something that you can remember. For this tutorial, I renamed wordpress directory to 13facts.

Now you have to make sure that XAMPP is running and start “APACHE” and “MySQL” from it’s control panel.

Creating Database with phpmyadmin :

Go to localhost/phpmyadmin in your web browser.

Now you will see a login screen.
